English Folk Song Suite (Vaughan Williams)

English Folk Song Suite, composed in 1923 by Ralph Vaughan Williams, is built around traditional melodies transcribed from field recordings of folk singers from various regions of England. The first movement is a march based on three tunes: “Seventeen Come Sunday,” "Pretty Caroline," and “Dives and Lazarus.“ The second movement, Intermezzo, features the mournful “My Bonny Boy” followed by a waltz, “Green Bushes.” The Finale is another lively march, made up of “Blow Away the Morning Dew," “High Germany,” “Claudy Banks,” and “John Barleycorn.”

With Dan Gianola-Norris, trumpet; Cathleen Torres, horn; Rich Lee, bass trombone and tuba; Stan Muncy, percussion. Arranged by Jari Villanueva. Produced by Music In Place.
